Getting ebooks onto your favourite devices
and apps is easy

Authors can upload their ebooks to Areobooks in three different file types: ePub, mobi and pdf. Different devices read different file types. Amazon devices read mobi files and most other devices read ePub files. All devices should be able to read pdf files.

The available file types for an ebook are shown on its book page. Free samples can be downloaded at any time. After you’ve purchased an ebook you can download it in any of the available file types.

This page explains how to get your purchased ebooks onto your favourite devices and apps.

iPhone, iPad (ePub and pdf)

Your iPhone or iPad should come preinstalled with Apple’s iBooks app, which can read ePub and pdf files. If you can’t find the iBooks app on your iPhone or iPad then go to the Apple App Store and download it for free. There are two methods for transferring ebooks purchased from Areobooks onto your iPhone or iPad.

Method 1. Download the ebook to your computer, add it to iBooks and transfer it to your iPhone or iPad:

Step 1: download the ebook to your computer

  • After purchasing an ebook on Areobooks you’ll be asked which file type you want to download. Download your ebook as an ePub file (if ePub is unavailable then select pdf) and save it to your computer’s desktop.

Step 2: add the ebook to iBooks

  • Launch the iBooks desktop app by clicking its icon (or double-clicking for Windows computers).
  • Once you have iBooks opened, drag and drop the ebook file into iBooks.

Step 3: transfer the ebook to your iPhone or iPad

  • Launch the iTunes desktop app by clicking its icon (or double-clicking for Windows computers).
  • Once you have iTunes open, connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer.
  • Once connected, click on the iPhone or iPad icon, which you’ll see in the row of icons on the top left-hand side of iTunes. This will bring up all the information for your iPhone or iPad.
  • On the menu on the left hand side, underneath Settings, you’ll see an icon called Books. Click on this and it’ll show all the books stored on your computer in the iBooks app.
  • To sync iBooks on your computer with iBooks on your iPhone or iPad, select either All books or Selected books (in which case you will need to select the books you want to sync) and click on the Apply or Sync button at the bottom right of the window.
  • That’s it! Once the sync has completed you can open iBooks on your iPhone or iPad to read your newly transferred titles.

Method 2. Download the ebook directly to your iPhone or iPad:

  • Use the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad to navigate to www.areobooks.com and login to your Areobooks account.
  • After purchasing an ebook on Areobooks you’ll be asked which file type you want to download. Download your ebook as an ePub file (if ePub is unavailable then select pdf).
  • Your iPhone or iPad will give you the option to open the ebook in the iBooks app.
  • Select that option and the ebook will be added to the iBooks library on that device.
  • Note: you can’t transfer ebooks downloaded directly to your iPhone or iPad from Areobooks back to your computer, which means you can’t sync books across devices. This isn’t a problem if you only read ebooks on a single Apple device. However, if you read on multiple Apple devices we recommend using Method 1.

Android devices (eg. Samsung Galaxy) (ePub and pdf)

Android devices should come preinstalled with the free Play Books app, which can read ePub and pdf files. If you can’t find the Play Books app on your Android device then go to the Google Play store and download it for free.

  • Use the Chrome browser on your Android device to navigate to www.areobooks.com and login to your Areobooks account.
  • After purchasing an ebook on Areobooks you’ll be asked which file type you want to download. Download your ebook as an ePub file (if ePub is unavailable then select pdf).
  • Your Android device will give you the option to open the ebook in the Play Books app. Select that option and the ebook will be added to your Play Books library.
  • Alternatively, once downloaded click on the file and your Android device will ask whether you want to open the ebook using the Play Books app. Select that option and the ebook will be added to your Play Books library.
